Ornamental Tropical and Subtropical Plants Including House Plants (Wed, Oct 15) 6:00 PM-9:00 PM,
Tower Hill Botanic Garden: Stoddard Education and Visitors Center, 11 French Drive, Boylston, MA
Instructor: Paul M. Steen, M.D.
Tropical and subtropical plants are primarily indoor ornamentals in our
climate, and they can temporarily serve the same role outdoors during
the warmer months. In this course the special needs and characteristics
of tropical and subtropical plants will be surveyed. An overview of
available types and species, both well-known and unusual, will enable
students to select such plants intelligently and to care for them
successfully. Since all house plants are tropical/subtropical in origin, we
will devote several sessions to caring for house plants and indoor care of
tropical plants in New England. Specimen plants in The Orangerie will be a
principal resource for the course. (Thirteen classes)
