Mixed Media Jewelry: Ceramic and Metal (Mon, Oct 20) 6:30 PM-9:30 PM,
Worcester Center for Crafts, Handbuilding Studio, 25 Sagamore Road, Worcester, MA
This new class gives beginners the experience of working in two different studios at the Worcester Center for Crafts. The first 4 weeks will take place in the clay studio where students will learn techniques such as carving and stamping to create texture as well as slip and glaze application. The remaining 6 weeks will take place in the metals studio where students will embellish their ceramic pieces with metal. Metalsmithing skills such as sawing, soldering bezel setting and finishing will be presented to complete a ring and/or pendant. Material Fee covers cost of metal.

Gain a new perspective, and learn about the history, lifestyle, and spirituality of the Navajo people, while studying the basics of a unique and beautiful tapestry technique. Using a small version of the Navajo loom, students will create a sampler featuring stripes, pick-and-pick, honeycomb patterns, and a traditional motif using the vertical join. Weavers with previous experience may select a pattern which includes the diagonal join. Discussions of Navajo history and mythology will accompany the weaving sessions. No weaving experience is required.

Public Art Underway in London's Chinatown to Honor its' East Asian Population The artist submission deadline has ended and the deciding process begins to create a permanent eye-catching three-dimensional artwork in any medium that is suitable to withstand the elements. Explore the basic fundamentals of working with metal to make wearable fine crafted jewelry or small scale sculptures. Learn basic techniques such as sawing, filing, roller printing, cold connecting, soldering, finishing and simple stone setting. Focus will be on proper tool use, skill development and personal creativity through instructor guided projects. Projects may include pendants, bracelets, rings and/or earrings.
