Explore the basic fundamentals of working with metal to make wearable fine crafted jewelry or small scale sculptures. Learn basic techniques such as sawing, filing, roller printing, cold connecting, soldering, finishing and simple stone setting. Focus will be on proper tool use, skill development and personal creativity through instructor guided projects. Projects may include pendants, bracelets, rings and/or earrings. Materials fee provides students with the basic supplies needed for this course. Materials fee provides students with the basic materials for this course. Additional material may need to be purchased. WCC Metals Department has no control over the fluctuating metal prices.

This new class gives beginners the experience of working in two different studios at the Worcester Center for Crafts. The first 4 weeks will take place in the clay studio where students will learn techniques such as carving and stamping to create texture as well as slip and glaze application. The remaining 6 weeks will take place in the metals studio where students will embellish their ceramic pieces with metal. Metalsmithing skills such as sawing, soldering bezel setting and finishing will be presented to complete a ring and/or pendant. Material Fee covers cost of metal.
