Worcester Center for Crafts, Wheelthrowing Studio, 25 Sagamore Road, Worcester, MA
Working as a dynamic group you will spend five evenings and a weekend preparing work for and firing the Craft Center's wood kiln. Topics covered will include wood splitting and kiln preparation, glazing/decoration of ware, loading of the kiln and a 24 hour firing. Students will man the kiln in six to eight hour shifts with faculty supervision. After the kiln has cooled, students will
unload the kiln, perform basic kiln maintenance and review the work.
This is a great way to learn about firing first-hand while developing new surfaces on your pottery or sculpture! Students must provide their own high-fire work (15 to 30 pieces) and will be guided on the space parameters of the firing after registration. Initial class meetings will be every other week, with the firing on the weekend (see schedule), bring some bisque-ware to the first class. Students will also be welcome to glaze and fire any remaining ware in our cone 10 reduction kilns. Please contact Tom O'Malley for details. Limited to 10 students.
