Come enjoy at nice cool day out of the sun in our air-conditioned Museum. Throughout the summer vacation months of July and August we will be having all-day Heraldic Shield Workshops on the weekdays. For $5 you can make your won heraldic shield to display your arms for all to see. In addition, at 11:30am and 2:00pm we will be running interactive Arms and Armor shows in our auditorium. Should it rain on the weekdays we will do special programming instead of our usual daily programs! At 11:30am we will have our Hands-on History program, at 1:00pm there will be a story time, and at 2:00pm we will have a special show. This special show could be Arming a Knight, 14th Century Knight, Women and Warfare, Roman Arms and Armor or any other of our specialty shows. In this class we will investigate each and every machine, its safe operation and its uses for finishing and refining glasswork. This is a problem solving class where you will learn the tips and tricks to safely and effectively take your glasswork through the finishing stages to completion. You will also create at least one cold worked sculpture using subtractive sculpting techniques. Bring a pair of rubber boots and prepare to get wet.

Flameworking is the process of shaping glass rods and tubes into small objects over the flame of a torch. Students begin by making beads, pendants, and marbles to establish a foundation of technique. As the class progresses, projects will advance to include the creation of solid sculpture and hollow forms such as flowers, holiday ornaments, and perfume bottles. Small class size and one-on-one instruction allows students to work at their own pace.
